Genius Hour Reflection
Summarize the purpose of your Genius Hour project in 140 characters
The purpose of my genius hour project is to upgrade the football teams practice equipment. I figured what better way to give back to the football team than upgrading the equipment. The purpose of this is to turn kids into the player they want to be. The equipment we currently have is very rusty and beaten up. I wanted to raise money for a new blocking sled and new agility ropes. Players can’t become good players without halfway decent equipment, and I want kids to be the best players they can be.
Explain the process of your Genius Hour project. Be reflective. Be contemplative. Explain and describe your journey.
The process of my genius hour project is raising money and gathering tools to rebuild equipment and to buy new equipment. The first thing I did was talk to my coaches to see what they thought of the idea, and what we needed most. They said it was a great idea and we needed a new single man blocking sled. Right away I made a go fund me account to raise money. So far it has not been very successful.
The journey has not been considered a good journey for this project. I have not raised enough money to buy a new sled or even to fix the fixable equipment. It is very hard to do this project without the money that I need.
The intention For Genius Hour is NOT only to learn, but ALSO to share your knowledge with others who can and will benefit from your learning. How did you share your learning? What do you hope the result might be? (No Less Than Two Full Paragraphs.)
I shared my learning by basically telling people there is gonna be times when you fail in this type of project. It is okay to fail in this project because you can regroup and bounce back stronger. I would also say I learned that it is okay to fail, because this project is evolved around failure and how you're going to react to it.
I hope the results for other people’s project as well as mine is that it turns out the way they want. Success is the best feeling and I want everyone who attempts a genius hour project to feel accomplished by succeeding on it.
If you could do anything different with your Genius Hour project what would you do differently and why? (No less than two full paragraphs.)
If I could do anything different on my genius hour project i would do a couple things. The first thing I would do is find more than one way to raise money. The only thing I did to raise money was make a go fund me account. Go fund me accounts are a good way to raise money, but by just making one did not get me the money I needed.
The second thing I would do is advertise it more to raise money. I wrote a short paragraph on why the football team needed a new blocking sled, but maybe it didn't sound convincing enough. If I were to do this project again I would tell more people about it and show people what our football program means to us, in better words, have better advertising.
Reflect on what you did well during this Genius Hour process? Note your successes and accomplishments.
I feel my biggest accomplishments on my genius hour project is accepting failure and not giving up. My genius hour project isn’t what you would call a success, it failed. By my project failing I learned that it is okay to fail.
The other thing I learned is that even after failing, I never gave up. I did not raise the money I needed for my project, but I didn’t give up on it. I still tried my best to raise money by posting the go fund me on facebook. All in all my biggest successes were my failures.
